1. What do you think about Bosnia current situation?

Amir's interview

Amir is born in Bihac, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He has the Bosnian nationality and belongs to the Muslim community. So, he is a Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim). He is around 35.

What do you think about Bosnia current situation?

The current situation in Bosnia is very complicated because the war ended without a winner.

Nationalist political parties are in power and exploit the fear that exists between the people in order to get their votes in the elections. Every day in the media we listen presidents of political parties how they are "trying to protect the interests of their people" - but most of the people in Bosnia wants to live in peace with other citizens of the country.

Bosnia goes bravely forward - towards European integration and membership in NATO. Every

year, right-wing political parties are losing effectiveness and new, younger generation of

politicians are coming who do not want to live in the past.

2. What do you think about Bosnian reconstruction post-war ?

Would you say that there is a multicultural society in Bosnia ?

We live in Bosnia which has a tradition in multicultural society in addition to the multi-ethnic tradition. We have no other tradition except multireligious tradition and in this sense it is paradoxical that some people are trying to teach us a multicultural, multireligious, and having much less experience in that from ourselves. In preserving multicultural society in Bosnia a far greater role have religious communities as traditional source of sustainable living.

3. Would you say that there is a multicultural society in Bosnia ?

4. Which kind of relationship the different communites have ?

5. How do you feel about the “Srebrenica Massacre”? Would you name it as a genocide? Do you expect that Serbian government recognize it as a genocide?

Which kind of relationships the different communities have?

In one word there has always been respect for other communities. The nations have always lived together and learned how to relate to each other. In Bosnia has always been a tradition to respect other religious holidays, to visit each other for Christmas, Eid, Hanukkah ... and nothing will spoil respect between communities.

How do you feel about the “Srebrenica Massacre”? Would you name it as a genocide? Do you expect that Serbian government recognize it as a genocide?

I feel very sad at the mention of the name of Srebrenica city and the only thing I first think of is massacre, genocide. A large number of people were killed simply because they were of another faith. Srebrenica is the biggest shame of Europe and the rest of the world - no one did anything to stop it from happening.

Serbian government has to recognize that genocide occurred in Srebrenica and thus can prevent the recurrence of such crimes. Not recognizing the genocide means approving of what happened. We can forgive - we will never forget.

6. What would you do if you have powers to improve the Bosnian situation?

What do you think about Bosnian reconstruction post-war ?

Very slow process that was stalled by bad politicians in power, the people who were corrupt. But in the last few years we have fantastic results in the reconstruction of the country, a large number of tourists are coming every year, foreign investment, the construction of highways, the joint state institutions, joint army, state police ... these are all indications that Bosnia is moving forward.

What would you do if you have powers toimprove the Bosnian situation?

Change the Dayton Agreement from 1995, to abolish the entities, cantons. Introduce a joint police and courage to deal with the criminals at the top level who are in the government of Bosnia - state police has already started to deal with these things.

Invest money in young people, IT, educate people in the natural sciences. Produce more healthy food and reduce imports from abroad.

7. Do you think that the European Union has to help? How?

Do you think that the EU has to help ? How ?

Bosnia goes in the direction of the European Union so that their assistance very important, because the European Union has the experience and power that can help Bosnia to join the EU one day. Bosnia can learn a lot from experiences of other countries that have gone through a transition in which process is now our country.

A last word ? Free expression !

I'm glad I could help you better understand how our society works, I hope I helped you to better understand the situation in our country, so maybe one day you can come to Bosnia and to get personally opinion what we are a country and what we can provide to Europe - as though we are part of Europe.
